ScriptMail (SMail)
Ever wanted to see the results of your nightly batches, but not able to logon to
your remote Windows system to do that? Ever since I've started working with NT servers,
I've been annoyed by the fact that unlike on Unix/Linux, I wasn't able to send mail
from the commandprompt. Sure, you can install a mail program, use some tricks, and
automate its sending (kinda like the common virii/worms). But without overkill, this
is a hard thing to do.
This is where SMail can help. It's still not finished, and I reserve the right to
totally change the interface and commandline features (these work, but are not really
what you want, if you look at them thoroughly), but you're free to try it.
Key features of SMail are:
- Sending mail through SMTP only (not reading, just sending)
- Sending of mail from commandprompt (using "script file") or with a visual environment
(for quick sending a message without using a mailer).
- No installation required! Just copy the executable and its script(s), either in a
known (current) directory, or somewhere in your path, if you prefer.
Warning: It's probably an error of the memory management of the SMTP component, but
it has a problem with large attachments (bigger than 5Mb), so I suggest you use it for
sending log-mail only.
Newest version includes (default) ini-file and example script. Fixes include amongst
others the resizing and tweaks on the interface. Also fixed the helpproblem ('smail /?'
should work again now).
